His family links to rallying's past include his Dad's uncle being a stalwart of Alnwick Motor Club with their premier road rally being named after Julie Shield his wife.
Chris's dad also took part in road rallies in the early seventies.
Chris took his BARS test in March 2004 and entered his first event with Dave Bell on the notes in Keilder on the Border Counties.
A baptism of fire which ended up in one of the infamous Keilder ditches on the 4th stage.
His next event also with Dave Bell was the Alnwick Motor Club's Lion Stages where he got his first finish and 4th in class.
He then asked Pete to sit in on the Trackrod Clubmans in October 2004.
After 2 stages he was leading the class by over 20 seconds despite an overshoot in Langdale. A steady run over the rest of the stages saw him retain that lead to take the class win.
Next up was the classic Grizedale Stages where despite struggling with a down on power engine and the rough stages due to running near the back of the field Chris and Pete continued to develop the incar relationship and finished 4th in class.
After looking at what was on offer in 2005 Chris and Pete decided to enter the newly formed BRC Stars of the Future Championship and the car and engine were stripped and rebuilt in readiness for this year over the winter.
